The Players Association
landscapebanner
The Who, What, Where - 23.06.06 The Players Association is a unique online radio station where you can listen to and search streaming DJ mixes. Ok, so what's unique about that you may well ask?

We are not an exclusive service for the usual superstar DJs. There are countless sites for that. We are not a large commercial company wishing to tap into the underground, The Players Association was set up by DJs for Djs.

Nu-Jazz: Overview & Related Terms (Wikipedia)

Here is Wikipedia's overview of nu-jazz and related terms listed below. It is a good introduction to the genre with some artist recommendations that are fairly typical, though exemplify the genre quite well. Of course there are many names to add to this list, and I see that the only artists listed are electronic artists creating jazz (rather than the other way around, e.g. Brad Mehldau or Kurt Rosenwinkel's electronic excursions). But, it is still a valid list and good intro to the style. Right now the nu-jazz entry is only a stub, so here's hoping it gets expanded with more useful "Encyclopedic" analysis of the history, progression, nuance, mores and tropes of the genre. Wikipedia Nu-Jazz entry (excerpt):
Like the terms electronica and jazz, nu jazz is a loosely defined umbrella musical style. It ranges from combining live instrumentation with beats of jazz house (exemplified by the French St Germain, the German Jazzanova and Fila Brazillia from the UK) to more band-based improvised jazz with electronic elements (such as that of the The Cinematic Orchestra from the UK, the Belgian PhusionCulture nu jazz improvisation collective, and the Norwegian "future jazz" style pioneered by Bugge Wesseltoft, Jaga Jazzist, Nils Petter Molvær, and others). It is a term sometimes ascribed to Squarepusher's music.

A balearic mix of tunes that evokes only images of the beaches of Brazil and Ibizan sunsets. Clearly, Washington DC's winter is leaving DJ Sean Quinn dreaming of warmer places, while performing at new local spot, Eleventh Street Lounge.

Album Reviews on Calmscape

Calmscape is a great online community for chill-out music. It features a podcast, streaming online radio, articles, messageboard and more. Here is a selection from the album reviews page on Calmscape:
Artist: Keston & Westdal Album title: Truth Is Stranger Label: Unearthed Music
Released: December 2006
Artist Website: www.kestwest.com
Keston & Westdal have released Truth Is Stranger, a voyage into new territory for this duo. Their previous work, Super Structure Baby (2004), was an auspicious departure into the world of electronic music where synthetic vibes dominated the landscape. Truth Is Stranger moves over the horizon, exploring new country that incorporates more jazz sounds. As we begin our trip, "One 3 Five Funk" announces that this vacation is going to be fun. Organ work here is prominent as the track takes on a funky sound. It seems KestWest has moved away from some of the drum machine work on Super Structure and have settled for a more organic sound.

Revolution Void - Oldskool Breaks Mix 1996-98

I released a mix of oldskool breaks tracks I did circa 1996-1998. It has been released as WAV, MP3 and Ogg Vorbis formats. The music ranges from down- to mid-tempo funky breaks to up-tempo drum'n'bass and oldschool hardcore.

D-Fonk - Eclectic Mix

This is another nice mix from Blentwell:

This mix is an eclectic blend of tracks spanning quite a few genres. Overall, it's a nice track selection and pacing. A lot of bumpin' breakbeat grooves and funk, jazz and soul influences. Perfect soundtrack for a party. The variety will keep everyone happy and all of the tunes are fairly high-energy. Good stuff!

Hip-hop & Nu-Jazz from Japan
